Sanitation

The Sanitation and Recycling department is operated under the direction of the Street Department, which is located at 333 E. 9th Street. The Sanitation Department offers once per week residential pickup along with as needed commercial pickup. 90 gallon polykarts are available for purchase from the City of Russell. Polykarts are used with automated equipment on the sanitation trucks to speed refuse collection. The City of Russell also offers 2 yard metal dumpsters that are also available for purchase for commercial or industrial service.

The City of Russell Sanitation Routes (PDF) will begin Summer Heat schedule running Monday through Friday from the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. View the the Sanitation Service (PDF) for more information on the services offered by the City of Russell or contact the City of Russell at 785-483-6311. The Russell County Landfill, located 4 miles north of Russell on US-281 Highway ,is available for disposal of items not picked up by the City of Russell Sanitation Department.

The City of Russell Recycling Center is located at 333 E. 9th Street, on the west side of the Street Department. Hours for the Recycling Center are, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to Noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. to receive paper and cardboard. A 24 hour Cardboard collection station has been established at this location for after hours drop offs. Two recycling trailers have also been made available thanks to the generous donations of community members and grant funding from the Russell County Community Foundation. The recycling trailers accept plastic, aluminum, tin, and glass and are available for use 24/7. These trailers are located at the corner of 9th St and Elm Street.
