The Water Production Division is responsible for the production of raw water and treating the raw water to safe drinking water standards.
The City of Russell has two raw water sources. Ten wells are located adjacent to the Smoky Hill River approximately twenty three miles southwest of the City.
A surface water intake is located about 8 miles southwest of the City along Big Creek. The City of Russell currently uses conventional lime softening process to treat raw water.
Construction was completed on a Electro-Dialysis Reversal (EDR) Water Treatment Plant. The EDR plant uses membrane technology to treat water and supplements the treatment now being provided by the original water treatment plant.
