The Sanitation and Recycling department is located at the Street Department, which is located at 333 E. 9th Street.
The Sanitation Department offers once per week residential pickup along with as needed commercial pickup.
90 gallon polykarts are available for purchase from the City of Russell. Polykarts are used with automated equipment on the sanitation trucks to speed refuse collection. 2 yard metal dumpsters are also available for purchase for commercial or industrial service.

The Russell County Landfill located 4 miles north of Russell on US-281 Highway is available for disposal of items not picked up by the City of Russell Sanitation Department.
The City of Russell Recycling Center is located at 333 E. 9th Street, on the west side of the Street Department. Hours for the Recycling Center are, Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 12:00pm and 1:00pm to 5:00pm.
Items accepted at the recycling center are:
Newspapers – all newspapers including inserts
Corrugates cardboard only
Magazines.
No Chip board (cereal & Shoeboxes)
No hard cover books
Styrofoam is not accepted.
