The Building, Planning, and Zoning department is responsible for many activities throughout the City of Russell. Some of those responsibilities include the following:
- Review plans for building code compliance for new construction and remodels.
- Issue building permits
- Provide licensing to contractors
- Perform inspections for construction projects
Responsibilities
Planning and Zoning is responsible for the coordination of land development activities through the administration of Zoning Regulations and Subdivision Regulations within the City of Russell. A Planning Commission consisting of five (5) members acts on and approves plats, makes recommendations on zoning requests and conditional use permits. The Board of Zoning Appeals consists of the five (5) members of the Planning Commission and considers variance applications, as well as appeals. The Planning Commission/Board of Zoning Appeals meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.
