The Russell Community Impact Award Committee is pleased to announce Mary Hammerschmidt as the distinguished recipient of the November 2025 Russell Community Impact Award. This award recognizes individuals, businesses, or organizations whose exceptional contributions have significantly enriched the fabric of the Russell community.
Mary has dedicated the past 19 years to the Russell Senior Center and will be retiring at the end of this month. During her time at the center, she has worked tirelessly to create a welcoming and functional environment for everyone. Her commitment and strong work ethic have led to numerous improvements over the years, including enhancements to the parking lot, which serves many members of the community.
Mary is highly respected among the senior community, having received multiple nominations for this award, recognizing her contributions. These nominations highlight her as the glue that has kept the Senior Center a vital and functioning part of our community. Thank you, Mary, for your contributions to our community!
As the winner of the Russell Community Impact Award, Mary received a $250 donation to the non-profit of her choice. Mary chose the Russell Senior Center as the recipient. Mayor Jim Cross and KRSL/KZRS Russell Radio General Manager Mike McKenna presented Mary with a $250 check at the December 16, 2025, city council meeting.
